8MPixel Atik 383L Plus
A huge amount has been written about this CCD to justify its place in astronomers' hearts. We can sum it up succinctly by saying that it's a fabulous CCD, and is currently available at an irresistible price. We have built on the success of our highly-regarded Atik 314 platform to support Kodak's KAF-8300. This immediately offers a huge number of advantages, including the very low read-noise circuits and the reliability of using this established design.
The key to any high-quality camera is the ability to convert light collected by the sensor into digital information, while ensuring that as little noise as possible is added. The digital image needs to truly reflect the light collected. The Atik 383L+ achieves this, having:
- Very low read-noise, 7 electrons, on a par with many Sony sensors, enabling faint details to be detected.
- Great linearity, with a regression correlation coefficient of R = 0.9998 over the range 1,000 to 64,000, making the camera suitable for sensitive photometric measurements.
- The bias frame histogram from the camera shows the ideal Gaussian shape, indicating that maximum detail can be extracted on processing.
The Atik 383L+ is a dream combination of low-noise electronics and a scientific grade sensor that we are able to offer at a fantastic price. Whether you are an established imager, or are just starting, the Atik 383L+ is a great choice.
The EFW2.2 Filter Wheel
An upgrade on it's predecessor, The Atik EFW2.2 features a new mechanical location system for indexing the filter. This ensures that filters are always in precisely the same position which is of great benefit for flat field framing. Ensuring that flat field frames display exactly the same optical characteristics is essential to ensure that anomalies such as dust can be handled and removed accurately.
The EFW2.2 also features a slick design, with a slim and lightweight profile. For example, the distance between any Atik camera and the wheel itself is 0mm, while still maintaining the possibility of rotating the camera to any desired position.
Total extra backfocus to accommodate the EFW2.2 is only 22mm. Of special interest to Atik 383L+ users is the short distance from the filters to the CCD. This means that popular 1.25" filters can be used with this sensor down to f/5, without any relevant vignetting.
Filter disk options include 5x50.8mm, 5x2” mounted, 7x36mm and 9x1.25” mounted. Regarding software, the EFW2.2 has an ASCOM compliant driver, so that any compliant software can control it. Additionally, the EFW2.2 can be controlled using our Artemis Capture software, for easy, simple and efficient operation.
The EFW2.2 is supplied with your choice of carousel and separate carousels are also available to allow users to change.
The Atik OAG
The Atik OAG features an extremely smooth and precise fine focus system, with extension rings of 3 different lengths, so that different types of cameras reach focus with different types of autoguiders.
It interfaces perfectly with the EFW2.2, meaning that no spacing exists between both units, keeping total backfocus requirements low. The OAG can also be used without the EFW2.2 by using an adapter.
