At its core, the ACIS 2.4 is powered by the Sony IMX249 CMOS sensor (Mono/Color), which delivers a resolution of 1936 × 1216 pixels across a 13.4 mm diagonal (11.4 × 7.2 mm). This resolution is particularly well-suited for systems requiring high-speed data acquisition without the burden of extremely large data sets. In practice, this makes the ACIS 2.4 an excellent fit for industrial inspection, robotic vision, traffic monitoring, and machine learning environments where capturing crisp detail is critical but oversampling is unnecessary.
Unlike rolling shutter sensors, which can introduce distortions when imaging fast-moving objects, the ACIS 2.4 employs a global shutter architecture. This means that every pixel in the frame is exposed simultaneously, ensuring distortion-free captures even when objects move at high velocities. Combined with its 31 FPS frame rate, this capability allows researchers and OEMs to push the boundaries of speed-sensitive imaging without compromise.
Each 5.86 μm pixel is engineered for sensitivity, delivering a full well capacity of 33,000 electrons. This large well depth ensures that the ACIS 2.4 maintains excellent signal-to-noise performance across bright and dark regions in the same frame, offering a wide dynamic range critical for unpredictable lighting environments.
Noise levels are kept impressively low with a read noise of just 3 e-, while a dark current of only 0.03 e-/pixel/sec at -10°C ensures that long exposures — up to 1 hour — remain clean and usable.
Cooling has always been a critical factor in camera performance, particularly when longer exposures are involved. The ACIS 2.4 offers a cooling delta of 35°C below ambient, providing stable and reliable thermal control without excessive bulk. This balance allows the camera to remain compact and mechanically flexible, ensuring easy integration into OEM devices, laboratory setups, and industrial rigs where space is often at a premium.
