CCD vs CMOS: The Future of CCD Sensors

The latest in our CCD vs CMOS video series takes a look at the future of CCD sensors, a particularly important subject following the announcement earlier this year from ON Semiconductor that they are discontinuing their entire range of CCD sensors.

In this video our CEO, Steve Chambers, discusses the future of CCD sensors with our Sales and Marketing Director, Jason Evans. Between them they discuss which areas of the astrophotography sector will be effected by the rise in CMOS and some traditional manufacturers of CCD sensors discontinuing their production. The pair also discuss the exciting opportunities with premium CCD sensors that are traditionally used in professional astronomy and how such sensors could enter the amateur astronomy market, especially given that Atik remain committed to selling CCD cameras for years to come.
